Lights, Camera, Action: Kings Cinema is here!

Following the incredible success and positive feedback from last year's mobile cinema experience, Newmarket Charitable Foundation and West Suffolk District Council are thrilled to announce that Newmarket's long-awaited dream of having its own cinema is finally a reality.

Now, thanks to the generous backing of Abbeygate Cinema and NOMADS, Kings Cinema has opened it's doors at our very own Kings Theatre.

Sarah Howard, Chair of Trustees, speaking on behalf of Newmarket Charitable Foundation, said: "We are delighted to take this pivotal step toward fulfilling the community's desire for a cinema. Utilising the King's Theatre as our venue, made possible through the support of NOMADS, ensures access to an accessible mid-town venue. Abbeygate Cinemas have been hugely supportive in helping our team bring this project to fruition, and we look forward to sharing the latest films and blockbusters." Lyn Goleby, Director at Abbeygate Cinema, Bury St Edmunds, commented, "We are delighted to contribute to this project, which will enhance entertainment options for Newmarket residents. We are committed to delivering quality film experiences in Bury, and we look forward to bringing Cinema and satellite theatre and arts programming events from around the world to Kings Theatre."

Jamie Maguire, Chairman of NOMADS, added, "While we will maintain our calendar of theatre events, we are excited to be part of this brilliant initiative. The establishment of a cinema in Newmarket has long been discussed, and we are honoured to see our much-loved theatre being used to help bring the project to fruition." Josh Schunmann, Director of Newmarket Charitable Foundation, added: "We are keen to make the Cinema as accessible as possible, so we will offer discounted tickets for children and families in hardship.

The new Cinema has high-quality sound and projection equipment to ensure a truly cinematic experience, with a kiosk offering food and drinks to create that memorable evening."  The Cinema will be launching a membership programme with opening events, ticket discounts and partnership offers and invites you to its launch pages www.kingscinema.co.uk/membership for regular updates on the progress of the project and its opening date.

Partners include Abbeygate Cinemas, Nomads and West Suffolk Council. Newmarket Town Council and Suffolk County Council have kindly supported the Cinema.

charlie and the chocolate factory
september 2024

'Come with me and you'll be in a world of pure imagination!'

When young Charlie wins a golden ticket to the mysterious Wonka Chocolate Factory, it's the chance of a lifetime to feast on the sweets and chocolates that have always been right under his nose but unaffordable for the Bucket family.

Along with the other winners Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, Mike Teavee, and Augustus Gloop, Charlie and his Grandpa Joe encounter a magical world full of amazement, innovation, sugary treats and, of course, Oompa-Loompas.

But as the winners begin to let their greed and selfish natures get the better of them, it seems that everything is not as sweet as it seems...

GETTING HERE
The Kings Theatre has a small car park with 2 disabled parking spaces. There is also a public car park opposite in Grosvenor’s Yard. Both car parks can fill up quickly, so please ensure you allow plenty of time to park and get to theatre and be seated before the performance begins.

The theatre is a 7 minute walk from the bus station, and a 12 minute walk from the train station.

Auditorium doors are closed at the advertised start time and Nomads reserves the right to operate a no admittance policy for late-comers to ensure the enjoyment of our seated patrons. Thank you.

We do not generally offer refunds unless a show is cancelled by us or there are extreme circumstances.

Ticket prices for concerts and other small productions (including any non-Nomads productions) may vary.

When a show sells out, we can take your details and contact you should tickets become available. This will be on a first come, first served basis.

We use hazers and other smoke effects which are non toxic and perfectly safe to use for both our cast and patrons. Musicals use the theatre's sound system which includes microphones and amplified music, we therefore recommend that you consider carefully before purchasing a ticket for babies or very young children, both for their own enjoyment and that of our other patrons.
